Getting a jump on the new year

Here goes, I'm going to say it out loud--since starting Sweet and Sassy Cards, the most exercise I get is cutting paper. I along with 50 million others, will make a resolution to get my butt to the gym four, ok three times per week.

After making this internal committment, I actually joined a gym almost a week ago. It looks like I will make my goal of three workouts this week! B.E. (before Etsy) my workout was a minimum of 90 minutes, today it was only 55 - and I'm pooped!

Another goal of mine to to reach 600 sales in my Etsy shop before the year is over. Hopefully some lucky brides will find place cards, table numbers and thank you tags that they love. I of course will keep adding new greeting cards for all occasions, both Sweet and Sassy.

Will you stop in and have a look? I added two new Valentine's Day cards yesterday and will be adding more throughout the week.

Ending the year right at Sweet and Sassy Cards

Well, it's December 27th, the gifts are all open and guests have gone home. I am looking forward to a few quiet days in the next week. My immediate plans are too straighten and rearrange my work room. My dad, who is a woodworker made me a new shelf for storage. He hasn't seen my workspace-it is packed, but when you work with paper, there is never enough shelf space.

Today I will be working on some new Valentine's Day designs. I hope to list a few throughout the week to get these sales moving again. I will also be adding some "anti Valentine" cards. I'm hoping to have Sassy Sophie make another appearance.

I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to a great New Year's Celebration.

Meet Sassy Sophie

Sassy Sophie is new at Sweet and Sassy Cards. Sophie can say everything that you want to say, and just can't. She is Sassy!

Our town is pretty much back to normal after our big storm last Thursday. Hopefully some of this snow will melt or someone will haul it away, because the piles are much higher than my car, and i cannot see to back out of my driveway!

So after my unexpected four day weekend, it's back to school tomorrow. It will be a short week for me though because I am attending a conference in Rochester on Tuesday. Rochester? Isn't that where my daughter lives? Why, yes it is! I hope I don't get sick and need to stay in Rochester over night!

Anyway, if you get the chance, wander over to www.sweetandsassycards.etsy.com and meet Sassy Sophie. I think we'll be seeing a lot of her!

Christmas Cards Handmade at SweetandSassyCards.etsy.com

I remember my grandfather telling me that the older you get, the faster time goes. When I was a fifth grader listening to Miss Hickler teach a social studies lesson, I had a hard time believing him. Now that fifth grade is way, way behind me (it's even way, way behind my children) I do know exactly what he was saying.

The point here is that I haven't posted to this blog since August! Since my last blog a new school year has begun, summer turned into fall and winter is fast approaching. My Christmas tree is up, though the ornaments are not on yet.

Sweet and Sassy is loaded with Christmas cards, both Sweet and Sassy. I've also got gift bag sets that come complete with matching cards and tags. I have a few different styles of tags for gifts or products too. But my favorite card of the year is this one, a custom card for your child from Santa Claus. It is personalized with your child's name, town, and state. It also has an envelope that has a stamp cancelled from the North Pole. Check it out!

How Old?

It's the president's birthday. When I was growing up and a younger person it seemed that every president was at least as old as George Washington. It was somehow comforting to have an older. grandfatherish figure in charge of our country.

Today I heard that Barack Obama is 49. Do you know what that means? It means I'm older than the president of the United States of America. What happened? When did I get to be older than George Washington? This is not a good feeling.

But anyway, today will be a muggy and hot day. A good day to work on cards. I'm trying to get a good head start on Christmas items ready for Sweet and Sassy Cards. Things are going slower than I would like, but I do have three more weeks to get them going.

I would love it if you would take a look at the cards available at Sweet and Sassy Cards. Why not pick up a few for those special occasions that are upcoming? Don't forget, I'd love to make a custom card for you and your recipient!

Beautiful July Days - almost

Here's to hoping everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July. Mine was great. We spent most of it sitting in my sisters backyard with traditional picnic foods and a delicious vodka slushy concoction -- it was delightful!

Today was spent with mom and dad. Most of it was great too. We went to Alleghany State Park
which is about an hour or so from our home. We shared a picnic and memories and had a great day.

Then we drove home--did you know that when a police officer pulls you over to give you a "speeding" ticket, and you fail to turn on your four way flashers, you get another ticket? I didn't either, until today!!!!

Quickest blog post in the world

Yikes I'm going to be late for work! I wanted to show you all the communion card I made for a little sweety named Julia over the weekend. I received a message from her mother afterwards thanking me. How nice is that! This is the reason I love making handmade cards, especially the custom ones. Julia says she's going to keep it forever. God, I love this job!

vasectomy card at Sweet and Sassy Cards

This one is one of the Sassy ones. My son requested a custom card for a friend who was having a vasectomy recently. I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure the big card sellers don't sell these. I created a similar card for him and was able to spend some time with the recipient this past weekend. He actually thanked me for making it for him! That was fun. He really enjoyed getting a card for such a momentus occasion!

Another Sunday

And it is a perfect day. The weather is gorgeous the neighborhood is bustling and everyone is busy, busy, busy. I too was busy and did some planting, it's almost finished and soon it will be time to just relax and enjoy it! Until the weeds start springing up, which should be some time early next week.

I was busy in my work room today, creating another special order custom card. I really love this one. I hope the grandpa that receives it will love it too.

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Today I worked on some custom card designs. These are always fun and I love to create cards in collaboration with the giver for special occasions. I was able to create a special anniversary card, a card for well wishes after open heart surgery, and a special wedding card. Check out todays custom cards and remember, Sweet and Sassy Cards can make you a card for any special day.

Wedding Card or Bridal Shower Card by Sweet and Sassy Cards on Etsy

This could be my favorite bridal card. I really intended to use it as a bridal shower card, but with just a few tweeks, it could be an invitation to a shower or any wedding related event. Take a peek at this card and tell my what you think.

Sweet and Sassy Cards says Spring is here in my backyard

Today the temperatures will reach 80 degrees. Spring is making it's way into summer and my garden is growing. Next weekend we will celebrate Memorial Day, and at our house, it's all about the gardening. Larry has been hard at work getting everything ready for our big planting and perfecting weekend. Mulch has been purchased, and flowers will enter the picture sometime later this week.
I really love fixing our little piece of America. Our yard is small, but it's ours and we love to spend our summers relaxing and enjoying the summer.
We just added four new fish to the pond yesterday and I have yet to spot them swimming, but they will! After the planting is done, I'll add a few more pictures.

adorable sweet and sassy greeting cards

When I first sat down to check my Etsy site this morning, it was raining cats and dogs. Dreary and dark. Later in the morning the rain cleared and the skies brightened. It turned into the prettiest day with beautiful sunshine and cool air.

I've decided that i need to "organize" my work areas. I don't know if it's true for everyone, but i work so much better if my things are neat and organized. So I started with my computer area, and guess what I'm still here.

Please click on some of the links here on this blog to check out some of my Sweet and Sassy Cards. I would love to make a custom card for you or for someone you love.

Handmade Greeting Cards for Sale from Sweet and Sassy Cards

Hello and happy Friday to All. Officially it's my last day of spring break, darn. It was a little colder than i would have liked but that gave me plenty of excuses to stay inside and work on some new cards.

Yesterday my niece Rachael and I drove to Rochester to visit Ashley. I loved spending the day with my girls. We went to "tea" and wore silly hats and ate some great food. Later we rented a few movies, ate again (this time Chinese) and then headed for home. I know she only lives an hour or so away, but I hate leaving her. Sorry Ash, mom has some attachment issues.

Today I will be making some new Irish themed card designs to take to Blue Eye Creative. I was hoping to have them done sooner, but I've got another cold and things didn't move as quickly as I would have liked.

Well, I guess it's time to get to work, so have a wonderful day everyone.

Beautiful Handmade Greeting Cards for Sale

Have you seen my Etsy shop, www.sweetandsassycards.etsy.com. I have a beautiful Mother's Day Card that I would love to share with you and your mom. I have been told that my cards are a "work of art". Would you please have a peek at my shop and see what you think.

Does your taste run to the Sassy? I can cover that need to. Divorce card, colonoscopy card, over the hill? If you need it I will make it for you, and make it well.

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Today I'm going shopping. I am on spring break and have not been feeling my very best. I created 6 new card designs and am going to take some to Village Artisans today. If you get the chance to visit Williamsville, New York, look for Village Artisans and check out my Sweet and Sassy Cards.

It is slowly starting to warm up here in Buffalo. It is sandal season, my second favorite time of the year. Once spring break hits its all about ditching the socks and wearing the oh so cute sandals. So it's shopping day for me.

Sales seem so slow on Etsy. I would love it if you would pay a visit to www.sweetandsassycards.etsy.com to check out the cards that I have available. Please remember that any card at Sweet and Sassy can be personalized, just for you. Wedding cards, and baby cards are going to be added soon.

Handmade Greeting Cards at Blue Eye Creative

It was a big step for me and Sweet and Sassy Cards today. Larry helped me carry my heavier display pieces to Blue Eye Creative on Seneca Street in Buffalo yesterday. Today I took cards, and lots of them to be put on display there.

I hope to get a picture of the shop and my own little corner there. Blue Eye is opening on Saturday after a party tomorrow night for all of the contributing artists. Needless to say, I'm very excited about this new venture.

I'll keep you all up to date on the progress of the greeting card sales from sweet and sassy cards at both Blue Eye Creative and Village Artisans in Williamsville, New York

Hope your Easter was "Hoppy"

Sorry, that's probably the corniest thing I've ever written, but I couldn't help myself. I want to tell you about my hubby, Larry. In my family we take turns "hosting" our holiday dinners and Easter is our holiday. For the past few years we have hosted the family dinner at my sister's house. She has teen age boys, and i have nothing here that would entertain them.

Larry is well aware of my Etsy adiction and he knows that the only days when i have real time to work on my shop is the weekend. Not only has he been running the household, taking care of the animals, shopping, cleaning and everything else, he planned, shopped, cooked and cleaned up after the entire family holiday. How's that for a man? Lucky, lucky, me!

Dear Blog,

I've decided to write something today. I'm sure it will be witty and thoughtful. hmmm? maybe not. It's Tuesday morning and my sister's birthday, so happy birthday. You might know her she is Sandy from http://www.sandyssentiments.etsy.com/. If you haven't yet met her you should she sells very cute greeting cards. Hey wait a minute, I sell greeting cards too.

Today is a red shoe day for me. I spend most of the winter in drab black shoes, but now that spring is finally sprung and temps are up a little, it's time to be bold. So red it is. I';ll bet you already saw the giant shoe card. Isn't it cute? It's for sale you know.

Oh Blog, Dear Blog

I have been ignoring you. I have been ignoring the dustbunnies and the dirty socks too. All of my attention has gone into my beloved Etsy shop. It seems to be what I think about most of the time these days. Do you think I am obsessed?

My sister now has an etsy shop too. Check out SandysSentiments.etsy.com for some alternative card choices to mine.

The raging ear infection finally seems to be going away, can you believe three weeks? That's crazy. I've finally gotten most of the hearing back in my left ear, but not all and I'm hoping beyond hope that that is temporary.

Look around for the pretty pile of roses that will become the new addtion to SweetandSassyCards.etsy.com.

Lagging Behind

I guess I've been a little lax in the blogging department, haven't I? I'm happy to get this week over and the new one started. Last week SUCKED! Larry went out of town, still wasn't feeling great, but he has an awesome work ethic. I however was home from work with a double ear infection on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Went back to work despite the fact that i could hear virtually nothing. It's finally improving.

My sweet and wonderful daughter broke up with her boyfriend. I never got to know him as well as I would have liked too, but I know her heart is broken, but as she reminds me, she is strong and will be fine, and I know she will.

My son and his fiance', Krista went away for the weekend to a waterpark and had a wonderful time. I'm very glad for them and thought about them quite often.

Saturday began with a funeral for my brother-in-law's father. It was a sad but wonderful tribute

So I begin this week on a much better note, daughter is feeling better, mother is feeling better and I have made three sales on Etsy. Please visit Sweet and Sassy for your cards this Easter and Mother's day!

Some days are just dreary

The sun is shining, and it seems that spring has indeed sprung here. But still the day is dreary. I found out today that I have a double ear infection. You don't know my history with ear infections, but my eardrums have been breaking with infections all of my life. My drums are covered heavily with scar tissue. There is the possibility that some day they may break and not heal, so they are always scarry.

I checked in on my Etsy shop after a brief nap and found that I sold a card, but before I could complete packaging that order, my daughter called.

Ashley broke up with her live in boyfriend and she is broken hearted. This came from left field and she was shocked. It is terrible to be mom here, when she is feeling so sad, there. I know she is tremendously strong and that she'll be alright. She knows it to, but in the mean time it hurts so bad when they are in pain.

Today, still feeling like crap, I'm home from work again, with plans to go to work tomorrow. Hopefully the headache will go away. And I sold another card today, so that added another happy spot to my dreary day.

Me, an Artist?

Have you ever heard of the Handmade Highway. I have been a member for the past few weeks and it has been a really good thing for me and for Sweet and Sassy Cards. They have newsletters and blogs and I've already been featured.

Check out this feature that has been published on my billboard on the Handmade Highway today.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Today I took my cards to a beautiful little shop called The Village Artisans in Williamsville, NY. It was very exciting to see them actually in a shop, being put up for sale. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that good things will come from this.

I have a really cute new card that I listed this afternoon. Its a card for the shopaholic friend and will double as a gift card holder.

Getting tired and not feeling 100% so I'll keep this short and sweet. Check out my new listing if you get the chance.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Happy Wednesday everybody. The sun is out in Buffalo and February is over. To me that means the worst is over and spring is almost here. HOORAY!!! I've only got a few minutes here today to blog because I have to take cards to the shop tomorrow and they are not finished. I feel like a kid who didn't do her homework. I must go complete my assignment, so toodles to you and talk soon. Leave me a message if you read this because I don't think you did.

Have a good one,

Becky

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

The days are getting longer, and the air just a little bit warmer. We in Buffalo really shouldn't complain about our winter this year, but we do anyway. I'm itching to get the snow outta here so digging in the gardens can commence. I look forward to sharing my garden pictures with you.

I'm spending as much time promoting my Etsy site as I can, and hoping that I'm doing everything right. On Thursday, I will be taking in a few of my cards to a local shop called Village Artisans where they will be on consignment. Please keep your fingers crossed for me, OK?

Lots of good TV tonight so the DVR is going to be working overtime. I'm off, so have a wonderful evening everyone.

What a Game,

I have not been glued to the Olympic games this year. I've been stuck to the computer and to the chair in my workroom. Today, however we took some time off and went to Mom and Dad's house for the US vs. Canada final hockey game, and what a game it was. Hats off to the Canadian team for their overtime win and kudos and congratulations to the amazing American team. I would be remiss not to mention that stand out goalie, Ryan Miller plays for the Buffalo Sabres, my hometown team. Fellow Olympic teammate, Patrick Kane grew up in South Buffalo, just down the road from where I sit now. Good job all around.

One of my brand new birthday cards was in a treasury today made by stitchnmomma.etsy.com.
I hope you get some time to check out her Etsy shop, full of beautiful cross stitched goodies. Check out the treasury and all the adorable Cake goodies available in Etsy shops.
Good Sunday morning to you all. I've added a couple new items to my Etsy account and would love it if you would take a peek. My plans for the day include a few hours in my workroom completing some cards to go to Village ARTisans shop, where I will be putting them on display late Thursday. It will be my first foray into consignment selling, so I have my fingers crossed.

My time is limited in my work room today because Larry and I have been invited to Moms for dinner tonight. It's always hit or miss when Mom cooks, so we shall see. I look at it as an adventure.

I hope your Sunday is a wonderful one,

I'm Bilingual

Etsy is teaching me new things every day. I received a convo from a fellow Etsian, RevivalVintageDesign on Tuesday evening, asking me to change the "Mom" on my purple flower bouquet mother's day card to "Mum". In England they celebrate Mothering Day in March and they call their mother's Mum. Please find Revival at http://www.revivalvintagedesigns.etsy.com/.

It's funny, I remember my mother calling my grandmother Mum, and I remember thinking that was her name when I was really young and then I thought it was just some family thing. See I'm learning to speak English, and not just American.

The weatherman here is promising a snow storm starting later today. Hmmm, I'm not sure if we can believe him or not, but if he's right, snow day tomorrow? Keep your fingers crossed!

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Oh Damn

I just wrote a blog post, and lost it! How the heck did that happen? How well to make it short and sweet it said that nothing new is happening, I had a quiet day, and wasted considerable time checking in on my Etsy shop.

I'm going to try to show you my newest Easter card. Who knows where it will show up, but let me know if you like it.

It's time to get myself up to the workroom so --make people happy today, buy a card from Sweet and Sassy Cards. You will be happy, your recipient will be happy, and I will be happy too.

Bye for now,

Becky

Sunday, February 21, 2010

Yesterday was a good day

I received an email from a young woman who is opening a shop which will feature local artists. She asked if I would like to sell my cards there, so I'm waiting for more information from her. I decided to take a little drive to see her shop and brought my cards with, just in case. Well, it turns out that they are still fixing up the new shop and it was closed.

My dear hubby decided that he wanted to go into a completely different neighborhood to have some crawfish thing for lunch...and what did I see? Another shop (swanky part of town-ohh laa laa) that is called Village ARTisans.

I am not comfortable going outside of my comfort zone, and I've never done anything like this before, but I marched in with my cards and introduced myself to the owner. Long story short, I will be selling my cards there as soon as I can finish them! Wow. I wasn't at all sure of myself and when I saw the quality of the work in the store, I almost turned away.

See I told you, I'm learning something new everyday.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

My first Etsy Treasury

I'm very excited this morning. I'm in my first Etsy treasury, thanks to Stitchnmomma. Please check out her unique shop, filled with cross stitched treasures. The treasury is all about spring flowers, and oh boy, I think we are all ready for them. The sun is out in Buffalo today and you can almost feel the promise of spring.

I'm taking a basket of cards to my awesome hairdresser today. Stephanie is going to help me sell them and I am very grateful. Her shop is ultra hip and I have to say, hardly a day goes by when someone doesn't ask me where I get it cut, so I'll fill you in it's Shear Texture, on Clinton Street in West Seneca, NY.

Anyway, I'm off to buy some new punches, because I broke two of them this week :( See you soon.

Becky

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Good morning, I'm on vacation this week. Time to cuddle up and sleep in and just enjoy the fact that I don't have to go out into the cold if I don't want to. Then why, I ask you, is this the third morning in a row when I've been up an hour earlier than usual? Could it have something to do with Etsy?

I seem to have broken out of my no sales slump and made two sales yesterday. I'm very excited about this and need to go to the post office to see about the best way to send out last night's order.

Tonight I shall actually go out. My friend Joanne and I are going to one of our favorite restaurants, homemade Italian food like you've never had before. Delicious. Then it will be off to the movies.

So nothing particularly witty to add today. Hope your day is wonderful.

A Much Happier Day

OK today I get to lighten the mood, but first I want to thank everyone who sent good wishes and prayers my father's way yesterday. He sailed through his procedure, was declared to be blockage free, and was home by 8:00 last evening. I have read your messages and was grateful and touched by your thoughtful and kind words to a virtual stranger, it was greatly appreciated.

So, today my plan is to wear my comfy pants and spend the day in my workroom. I will not leave the house. People of Etsy tell me that I should be getting ready making some inventory for the busy season. I shall do this in hopes that they are right, and I will experience a busy season.

It's Wednesday and every Wednesday is ghosthunters day in my house. My son and his fiance' (my fellow Ghosthunters) will be over to watch our favorite ghost show. It may not sound too exciting, but at least once per week my grown son and favorite soon-to-be-daughter in law spend the evening just hanging out, so I look forward to it. If we can't be out hunting ghosts ourselves, we will watch others do it on TV.

I hope your day brings you joy,

Becky

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Good morning to all,

I'm afraid of today. We will be picking my parents up in a couple of hours and taking my dad for angioplasty. He had open heart surgery two and a half years ago, and seemed to be doing well. Lately he's been afraid and making comments that make me wonder. He tells us to take care of my mother and has been giving little bits of life advice which he usually doesn't do.

My hubby (Larry) and I will be waiting with my mother. This will be a long day for her as well. She is suffering from, shall we say, "memory issues", and will forget where she is or why she is there. This is a day I've been dreading.

I promise you, blog followers that my posts here will not always be full of woe and dread, but today, I ask for your thoughts and if you have a moment, maybe just throw a quick prayer out to the universe for dad.

I'm still in my robe

Happy Monday morning to all. As I sit here at my computer, in my bathrobe contemplating the day ahead, I am happy. Not only is today a vacation day, (which translates to more workroom time) this is a vacation WEEK. There are many benefits to working in a school and this is definately one of them.

My day job is a Library Media Aide. I work in an elementary school, grades three through five. My two children, Larry and Ashley are grown and out on their own. Neither is far from home, one is about 30 minutes away and the other is about an hour out. I am grateful though that I get to spend my days with other people's children. They are usually happy, and their stories can always make me smile. I'm sure that as time goes on, I'll make you laugh too with some of the things they say.

Oh, look at that, my neighbor is pulling out onto the snowy street, on her way to work. I feel bad. My hubby will be leaving soon too, after he finishes shoveling the driveway.

I think I have time for one more cup of coffee, then its off to work on some really cute Mothers Day Cards. I hope you all have a wonderful day and that everything goes your way today.

Happy Valentines Day

I love Valentines Day. It's one of the best days of the year in my humble opinion. It has nothing to do with chocolates. A card, or course to show your feelings is always appropriate. The happiness factor that accompanies Valentines Day is caused by the fact that it is officially half way through February.

You need to understand that we live in Buffalo, NY. Well, Cheektowaga actually which is a three minute walk from Buffalo. It has been cold here since October and I'm tired of WINTER. I am more than ready to open the windows and breath some sweet spring air.

In celebration of my Valentines Day happiness, I am going to spend most of the day in my work room working on some spring holiday cards. Afterwards, we're going to spend the afternoon with my parents. Later in the week we'll be spending the day at a local hospital while my dad undergoes some testing for his heart.

Anyway, thank you Valentines Day for reminding me that spring will be here soon.

My first Blog

Will anyone see this? My name is Becky and I am attempting to start my first blog. My new Etsy shop is Sweet and Sassy Cards and my goal is to show the world my cards and to expand my horizons and take on some new challenges in my life. I've never been one to sail into uncharted territory, I've always left that to the explorers in the world, but I feel like maybe it's my turn.

I would really like to get to know my fellow Etsians, people from other places, and to find out just how far I can go - and to get out of my comfort zone.

Will you help me?
